    ... to lose such close friends.  I'm glad you were able to be with her, and that you still have two dogs at home to keep you (and each other) company.

    I lost my girl of fifteen years two months ago.  She and I were such close friends, and she went so suddenly I still sometimes forget she's gone.  I miss her terribly, but there is some solace that she lived life at full speed right up to the day she died (she had a stroke at my feet as I ate dinner).  I laid with her and comforted her for her last few hours.

    I think three dogs is the right number.  We still have two, and in time will bring another into our "pack".  (My son is working at the local shelter this summer, and he has shown a few candidates.)
