the predatory humans who steal from them will likely continue to be born. There may be a flaw in the DNA which keeps some humans from making the connections that result in give and take. They only know how to take. Defining people as consumers is an effort to normalize this one-sidedness.
(I've always dislikes the word "consumer" because of its reference to the historically prevalent "consumption" which accounted for large segments of the population, especially females, being rendered impotent and non-productive. Now I've got the additional reason of it being a non-interactive condition. The consumer, sort of like a pig in the sty, is expected to take whatever swill comes his way and be content to get anything at all.)

On the other hand, "conspicuous consumption" has long struck me as a positive. "Look, but don't touch" is to consume with the eyes and leaves the object admired unscathed. Conspicuous consumption is non-destructive. It's not even possessive. It lets us consume what belongs to someone else or nobody at all. A feast for the eyes rendered electronically is an ideal free lunch, non-filling and yet able to satisfy as long as we live.

It's ironic that the Cons are into conspicuous consumption but, because they don't understand it or make the connections, it never satisfies them.

We organize governments to deliver services and prevent abuse.
