those who denigrate their fellow Americans out of ignorance and prejudice (Zimmerman, O'Lielly, Flush: I'm looking at you) strike me as less worthy by far of respect for their points of view.

I will not mourn for their decease, either. They had lives filled with potential, which they chose to abuse.

Doesn't mean I personally would get wet to save them from drowning.  I might not, myself, value them enough to bother, but they'd still have that value whether I granted it or not.  I really don't think...it's mine to give or take away.  We all have it.

Once you start equivocating, there are plenty of reasons why some of us are worth more than others.  Since we live in a world ruled by expedience, those reasons will always get first hearing, mostly.  And there are plenty of sound personal reasons for valuing the company and welfare of some over others.  But the value of a life is indivisible and irreducible, whatever my choices.  What I think, anyway.

      •  I'm not equivocating. They CHOSE to be (0+ / 0-)

as did Major Nidal Hasan, essentially traitors not just to the country but humanity. They have made their beds. Let them lie therein.

        No whining.
        No sympathy.
They made their choices, and now they should get to live with / die by those decisions.

deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."

I'm against the death penalty or any discussion that, regardless of how just it may appear on its face, leads to this sort of rationale.

            Humans are mammals.
Some diseases in mammals, such as rabies, cannot be cured or rehabilitated. For some diseases, such as rabies, euthanasia is a kindness (dying of rabies is a horrible and painful end).

To my mind there are humans who act out on their mental disease to such an extent that the only measure of safety other humans can have is their permanent removal from the population.
