    above and below this thread.

    It's reality.

The executive branch is what it is. Senator Obama had no idea he would actually BE president, which is much different than being a Senator, much less in the house (unless you're the Speaker).

The POTUS doesn't give up any power unless forced.  Maybe that will happen, but I don't think it will happen right now. Presidents don't give it up unless Congress makes them.

you make the good point that even if a POTUS were elected that actually did want to change things, there'd be precious little that he or she could do to actually accomplish that objective.

But when you select Joe Lieberman as your running mate, you make if crystal clear that you * don't * want change!

    •  No, it's cynical. (1+ / 0-)

Obama is asking Congress to take away power on NSA and spying right now. He requested that even before Snowden went on his overseas adventure. It's not the only issue where Obama has done this either. He has had to prod Congress to assert some authority once in a while and they mostly fail to do so. Congress is the roadblock, as usual, and they won't limit Obama's power unless we make them.

Can you imagine Bush asking Congress to limit his power to spy on Americans? He did nothing but fearmonger and take advantage of a crisis. No, it makes a big difference who's in power.
