    I expect businesses to do whatever is necessary to increase their bottom line.  

    I'm starting to think, however, that the relative anonymity provided by having such large companies is actually the thing that causes many of them to do such awful things.

    They don't take the immediate heat for doing the things they do, because the company is too large to even get an idea of who is responsible for the things they do.

      is that we are treating corporations as citizens  without liability instead of limited liability.  We need to start dissolving bad corporations and selling their assets.  
      Reigning in corporate boards and giving back more power to the stockholders would help as well.
