    That is so interesting.

    But five days!!

    I just read A Higher Call : An Incredible True Story of Combat and Chivalry in the War-Torn Skies of World War II by Adam Makos with Larry Alexander.

    A bomber was so torn up that the German fighter pilot could see into the inside of the plane where they were trying to help a man who had been severely wounded.

    He could not shoot them down and he escorted them across the flak at the coast so none was fired at them.  He could have been shot.  The bomber made it home to the coast of England and landed.  

    Many, many years later the two men were able to find each other and the injured man also came to a reunion.
