it was pointed out that no one would ever insure a plant so they were excused from carrying insurance.

(It's called the Anderson law, I think.)

    •  It's really shifting the risk to the public (2+ / 0-)

The Price-Anderson Nuclear Industries Indemnity Act of 1957, which has been renewed repeatedly since then, is a gigantic subsidy to the private nuclear power industry. Without it, we would not be currently burdened by a slew of toxic nuclear power plants whose potential indemnity is mostly carried by the public (otherwise known as the potential victims of a nuclear catastrophy).

Around 40 years ago I wrote my powerful Senator Sam Ervin (NC), and detailed the dangers of nuclear power plants and the physical and economic hazards to the public engendered by the Price-Anderson Act, thinking I could change things. Nope, didn't do any good. Nothing much has happened since then, except for some really horrific nuclear power plant catastrophies, the most recent and horrible of all being the one at Fukushima in Japan, which is beyond control, and which is currently the worst preventable nuclear accident of all time.

Carbon di-oxide in the atmosphere is now 400ppm. That is "Climate Cluster Chaos". (hat tip to JeffW for CCC)
