    ...also claimed that they acted with good intentions, i.e., patriotic defense of the country against terror. So the question is a simple one: should claims of "good intentions" be a substantive defense on it's own? Remember, Edward Snowden believed that the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan were about freeing people from oppression during the Bush administration. That's why he said he signed up for the military at the time. Think about that. The same person that is currently identified by many as objecting to "police state" surveillance was totally on board with the Bush administration view of invading Iraq and Afghanistan.
