  •  I enjoyed his books in the early '60's (13+ / 0-)

I had forgotten about him until I saw this diary, but I particularly remember FOR TWO CENTS PLAIN with pleasure.  I have lost the patriotism and optimism I felt in those days before the Viet Nam War, and before I even went to college, but I was a guitar playing folk music lover and fan of Pete Seeger, so I wasn't completely naive and knew what McCarthyism had done.  I imagine I would see Harry Golden's writing through much more cynical eyes, as I think I remember that he had a more cheerful and affectionate view of American life than I believe I can muster, but I intend to see if my local library has his work and look at it again.  At least I will add that to an already long list of things I would like to read or reread.  Thanks for the diary.
