  •  (R) fantasy holds Reagan up as a great president (4+ / 0-)

while calling for impeachment of Obama over the deaths in Bengazi.

So, let's compare/contrast Reagan in Lebanon with Obama in Libya.

    -- Death toll in 1983/2011: 398 vs. 4.

-- Political impact on ground: Iran took revenge for the shellings of Arab towns/villages uphill from Beirut. That got them influence over all the Shi'ia tribes and led to formation of the unified Hezbollah operation in 1985. vs. Libya is a messy success story so far. Economics dominates tribal rivalries and there is nothing like Hezbollah, Hamas, etc.

-- Suicide truck bombing succeeded four times in 1983 in Lebanon. The actions in Libya amounted to mob violence, augmented with a small number of RPGs.

Reagan had no good reason to put troops on the ground in Lebanon. When it turned out bloody and stupid, Reagan turned tail and retreated U.S. troops immediately, abandoning allies among both Marist Christians and the commercial sector of Muslims.

Press coverage was tweaked with a meaningless invasion of Grenada in the Caribbean a couple weeks after the Marine barracks bombing and a faked cancer scare when the doctors removed a benign polyp during a rectal exam. Managing the front pages was what mattered.

Did you also read where Ronnie tore down the Berlin Wall, brick by brick ??? Obama can't even get Putin to cough up the Snowden fur ball.
