  •  Stores get my phone number (5+ / 0-)

because I need to get the most value for my $$, and I do most of the grocery and household shopping for a family of four. I save about $200 a month by using the Vons/Safeway card as well as CVS and Walgreens. Costco already has my number, of course.

Sure, some of those stores track my purchases and then they give me coupons for $$ off the products I buy frequently. I like that.

Instead of carrying around all those "club cards", I can simply give the checkout clerk my phone number to get the discounts. Works great and I've never, ever had any phone calls from any of those stores. If they want an email address? Sure, I've got an email account for junk email.

I've googled my name to learn how much of my personal information is available on the internet. A lot! I didn't see anything about my shopping habits, but I really don't care if that's out there too.
