    We just tell them that we pay Comcast $1.50 per month to keep our phone number unlisted, so we wouldn't give it to a store

    I have no I idea how they bypass it, but they never give us any problem.

    That goes for Radio Shack, from whom we often buy little gadget stuff.

      They just enter 000-0000

      Phone number is a no-no (politely decline), but I have no problem giving out my zip code.  That is data that can actually use to make business decisions and not just harass me while I'm cooking dinner.
