  •  She's doing her job (24+ / 0-)

which is that she was hired, and fully enabled to publish any puke and pablum that popped into her head with impunity, so that the WaPo mucky mucks could point to her when the Right screamed "liberal bias". That may sound insane in the Teahadi era, but this is where she came from. It's where David Brooks came from. Weak tea as anti-biotic.

She is a "serious" conservative. An "antidote" to the Michelle Malkins and Ann Coulters. She's a frankenstein's monster of David Frum. David Brooks. Sally Quinn. Maureen Dowd. It's like thinking that self-inflicted botulism is a viable answer to the presence of plague.

She is an out-of-touch non-Conservative's idea of what all conservatives would be in a more civility meta fixated world. This is what you get when you try to treat a bad faith movement as if it is a serious contributor to governance and society. She says utterly vile things in a pleasant manner. She steps over homeless people with a disgusted look on her face rather than spits on them, she thinks "get a job, you fucking parasite" without screaming it at them out loud.

She's essentially trolling America because of editorial cowardice and a corrosive kind of cynicism that will carry on into the Jeff Bezos era I'm sure. They know at the WaPo she is awful. They knew David Broder was awful. That Sally Quinn is wretched. But they are, or were, all part of the Georgetown cocktail party set in a town where who you know and where you summer is as important as everything else one might consider one's intellectual worth.

KP's primary mission is to serially soothe or dismiss any concerns that an upper middle class to extremely rich white person might have that there is any merit to the notion that people of color/sick people/poor people/old people/students/disabled people/working class people don't have it a lot easier than rich people suspect.

They knew this when they hired her.

In this case, she is pooh-poohing black America. More in sorrow than in anger, I'm sure. She would much rather be golf-clapping black America, she would insist.

This is what cowardice looks like. She's vile, more people than not know it in DC. The people who sign her checks certainly are aware that they are getting no help with their Movement Conservative bad faith issue, while getting no substance from their "serious" conservative bullpen. A two-fer. Which explains how the WaPo went from billion dollar baby to internet billionaire's white elephant purchase for vanity and ego's sake.

It was the price they were willing to pay to have another "serious" conservative on the roster in yet another vain attempt to avoid having to say out loud that Movement Conservatism was and is the useful racist white nativist's idiot in the service of Oligarchy's school of though.

They might as well just have gone ahead and hired Michelle Malkin.

After all, they don't seem to have much problem putting Rightwing sociopaths that are far less civil with a penis on the team. I suspect this is another cocktail party fixation on how a lady should behave in polite society.

There's a lot of the 19th century in the 21rst century if you look in the right places.

I am a Loco-Foco. I am from the Elizabeth Warren wing of the Democratic Party.
