      to advise or educate about issues of the day.

      Unless there's a special occasion (e.g., anniversary of the Selma March), the smart ones (churches and pols) avoid politically sensitive speaking engagements too close to election day.

      IMO, black congregations don't seem to want or need the crude political red meat the Teahadist mega-churches prefer. We've got all our messages of love and justice covered in our liberation theology-based sermons and our gospel songs.
