  •  Surely all of this is true (8+ / 0-)

But the real problem republicans have is it is actually impossible to propose an alternate solution that is not already part of ObamaCare.  They clearly would not go anywhere nearly as far as far as guaranteeing protections, but all of their ideas (except for tort reform and selling across state lines) are already in there.

They are now attacking the very idea that it is good for people to have insurance at all, and that is clearly a political loser.

As Obama would say, "please proceed ..."

the point that they've had tons of time to come up with a better alternative to Obamacare, and they haven't. They've spent their time voting to repeal it.

Now they're out at community meetings talking about what they'd do to make it better (all bullshit). Well, what the hell have they been doing? Nothing. Just complaining.

the reason Republicans are panicking over Obamacare is they know full well the American people will embrace it like they embraced SocSec and Medicare.
And they will remember who gave it to them, and who is still trying, at this late date, to take it away.

Republicans will let you suffer if they think it will help them keep on not helping you.

    •  Selling across state lines (0+ / 0-)

The health insurance exchanges break down the state line barrier. Insurance companies CAN sell across state lines, BUT you are not hearing much about this yet for a number of reasons.
      1) If you want to buy on the exchange, you will either have to wing it yourself, or find the mythical insurance agent who is licensed to sell insurance in all states. Good luck!
      2) The insurance cartel is still selling policies that differ by state, based on how much profit they can make. They don't want to advertise that they are, or have been, screwing people in this state or that state, offering the same benefits at a higher premium and/or deductible.
      3) the exchanges aren't fully operational yet, because some states have refused to set them up. This stubborn tactic is only aimed at drawing more campaign dollars to run against Obamacare. ACA requires the federal government to set up the exchanges if the states don't.
      4) Municipalities, counties, labor unions, credit unions and corporations have not yet figured out that they can self-insure, and then offer their group policies on the exchanges, creating thousands of competitors for the cartel. But they WILL!
If you think about it, you can see how all of these will be resolved over time. An additional similar problem holds for this issue as for the rest of ACA: ENFORCEMENT. It will still be a few years before auditing and law enforcement finally discovers and ahem! rectifies any problems with cheating.
