I can only speak for myself.
In my case, Ms. Parker may be right.
The outcome of her premise is not what she might expect.
The reason, above all others, that I voted for BHO (both times) was he was the nominee put forth by my party. I was (and still am) happy that he was elected to be President. I have a great deal of respect for him and trust and faith in him to make decisions about things I can not begin to understand.
Second to that fact, I voted for him because he was a black man. He brings to the public arena a perspective and personal narrative the likes of which we have never had. If it is for that reason, the fact that he is black, and that is driving the conservative Republicans to such an idealogical extreme and made their ongoing slide away from winning in the political ring more certain, I will concede Ms.Parker's point. I would also concede that if his political perspective (and mine) is the bane of the Republicans and has driven them across a great political rift, I am more than happy to be on this side of Ms. Parker's 'divided America'.
