industry wage standards.  UPS drivers work very hard for the money, to quote Donna Summer.  They are paid pretty damned well, but are the most intensively "industrial engineered" workforce out there.  Every motion, every footstep they take...is measured.  They sweat bullets, and they always smile and are always friendly.

It's the golden handcuffs.  Good wages...Orwellian scrutiny by the bean counters and industrial engineers.

      •  That's not why they work so hard.... (0+ / 0-)

When I was loading trucks at UPS, many moons ago, everything was measured, yes, but with a purpose.  For example, a driver's route was calulated at, say 9 hours.  If you finished in 8, you were paid for 9.  Finish in 9, and all ok.  Finish in 10, consistently, and you were an ex-UPS driver.

The harder you worked, the better you did.  Unfortunately, when I was a loader, more than 30 years ago, you were part of the Teamsters contract, and could join the union.  Best paid part time job ever.  Some years ago they cut away the loaders as part of a price negotiation: and loaders are making not much more now than I did 32 years ago.

To avoid starting dumb wars, punish the dumb people who vote for them.

UPS is and of course USPS too.

Never be afraid to voice your opinion and fight for it . Corporations aren't people, they're Republicans (Rev Al Sharpton 10/7/2011) Voting is a louder voice than a bullhorn.
