  •  No, they haven't (0+ / 0-)

I lived in Seattle, birthplace of Starbucks, for 10 years, and I can promise you that there are many more local cafes than all the Starbucks combined. They put mediocre or poorly-run cafes out of business. If anything there are more high-quality cafes around now than before Starbucks came on the scene.

If you don't like Starbucks, don't got there. Plenty of other options around.

    •  cappuccino was never meant (0+ / 0-)

to be a 20-oz drink.  for that alone, starbucks deserves nothing but scorn.

      •  That's just silly (0+ / 0-)

There's no "meant". We're not talking about the Seven Sacraments. This is coffee. I've had good mega-sized lattes in cafes other than Starbucks before they were this big. It's quite common to have this for breakfast in France.

It's just a cafe, not Walmart.

        •  you do realize (0+ / 0-)

that a shot of espresso is, like, 1 oz, right?

i stand by it:  cappuccino was never meant to be a 20-oz drink, just as cheesecake was never meant to be diet food.

          •  A latte isn't a cappuccino (0+ / 0-)

The latter is generally a dessert beverage and around 6oz, while the latter generally a breakfast beverage and more like 12oz. Starbucks didn't invent this. The French did, although they call it cafe au lait.

Obviously Starbucks isn't a traditional French or Italian cafe. If you want that, there are plenty to choose from all over the US. It's an American-style cafe, and like everything American, things are bigger there.

And cheesecake is absolutely a diet food, if avoided while dieting.

            •  of course a latte is not a cappuccino (0+ / 0-)

we weren't talking about lattes, but cappuccinos, which were never meant to be 20-oz drinks.

              LOL @ cheesecake comment

at Starbucks. Usually it's lattes or frapuccinos. Although, if they came out with a cheesecake cappuccino, I bet it would sell like crazy. Myself, I almost always get a tall (12oz) coffee, plus free refills. I don't go there for the coffee so much as to get out and do some work. There are better places to get coffee.
