  •  A real misunderstanding of Christ (3+ / 0-)

I know there are many who don't believe here, but I must say that both the letter writer and Robertson have a real misunderstanding of what Jesus would say. Jesus, who healed lepers, dined with the dispossessed and exiled, would have urge the woman to drive the man and love the man. Robertson, as 'a man of God', should have pointed out that the man has a serious illness not unlike someone with cancer or kidney failure and that she should not presume (not that it matters) in what way this man contracted this illness.

This week that marks the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington highlights the difference between the Christianity taught to me as a child of the 60s and "Christianity"as promoted by Christianists like Robertson. It is hard to imagine that the Civil Rights movement would be possible today, given the lack of Christ-like love being extolled by Robertson and the like.

Almost enough to make me lose my faith.

Keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce.---Molly Ivins
