    someone's personal boundaries. You have to get fully informed, non-coerced, peer level consent. 14 year olds are not capable of that. Particularly with someone 35 years their senior who is a teacher. They are not peers.

    Adults can manipulate children into thinking that there is a peer level relationship. It's called grooming. The resulting sexual relationship is rape.

    The fact that the girl ended up killing herself over this tells us everything we need to know about her ability to give informed, peer level consent. He's a predator. She was his victim. It was rape.

      It's not clear what it was over.  I haven't seen any evidence yet that she believed she was a victim or was traumatized by this relationship.  What if she was traumatized not by the relationship, but by the legal case being made of it?  

      She didn't kill herself until the case was ready to go to trial.

      I think the most important thing in these cases is often to listen to the child.  That maybe becomes harder if you believe she has no capacity for judgement.  Did she want this case to go forward?
