It's so easy to swear off power before it's plopped into your lap.  But with all your good intentions, that power is just too valuable to give back.  So you lay claim to it, draw it close, let it filter into your everyday actions -- and before you know it, you're justifying to yourself pulling in that power to do all sorts of things.  Things you hadn't expected in the beginning, before you became part of the 'in crowd' -- aka The Club of Very Serious People inside The Beltway of This Town.  The ones who get the joke.

Because you are righteous, after all, so in your hands power can never corrupt, but only be used for good.

Those 'little people' who aren't on the inside just don't realize that, so it's fine to ignore them and their naïve complaints.

(WE are those 'little people', folks, but you already knew that.)

And thereby you become fully corrupted by power.

    QED.
