    If the bank can do something to someone with no reprecussions, then we ought to be able to do exactly the same thing to them with no repercussions. Ideally the bank should make the woman whole, by paying to replace all her stuff plus compensating her for all of her stress and wasted time. And if they don't do that, they should pick a random officer of the bank, and (with no warning) have the police take and destroy everything in their house.

    Do that once, and they'll suddenly decide that it's important to double-check addresses on paperwork and to efficiently pay damages when they screw up.

    It's just like how SOX made company officers personally liable for incorrect financial statements, and suddenly companies started putting audits and double-checks in place. Because companies don't really care about paying penalties or screwing customers or bad PR, but if you start holding company officers personally responsible they take things very seriously.

      too since many items would have had personal value to her beyond any financial compensation.  I mean, what is it worth if you take grandma's ashes and toss them in the town dump?
