It is impossible to read about climate change and not think about the Dark Ages.  Then, stupidity was used for religious purposes, today it's used for money.  Being deliberately ignorant must be a human trait--one would think science has advanced enough to blunt such a reaction--one would be incorrect.  To most humans, the world is flat--it's so obvious.

Bloomberg has this article -- more proof doesn't necessarily mean more acceptance -- even business magazines get it.

    •  It's the stupid, stupid. (5+ / 0-)

Stupidity is still used for Religious purposes.  A friend of mine, who believes the rapture is going to happen next month, loves to watch the Jesus cable channels.  They love to rap their crazy theories in "science-speak".  By using scientific terminology, it gives a degree of legitimacy to their ridiculous claims.

I always ask him questions to try and find out the limits of his absurdities.  I asked him if he believed we are a planet circling one star among a hundred billion in our galaxy which is one galaxy among a hundred billion galaxies?  He gave me a blank look and then proceeded to explain to me how the bible explains why the north star is the center of our galaxy.  He is but one among thousands in this area, and there are thousands of areas like this in this country, and there are dozens of countries like this on our planet.

Sometimes I wonder how many stupider planets there may be in the universe, or are we the only one.

Why is he a friend?  I have divorced myself from people I find deliberately misinformed-- makes every day better.  My eyes thank me because they don't get rolled as often.  BTW--speaking of rolling your eyes, best news clip ever was Michelle Obama rolling her eyes listening to Boehner at a dinner party.

For the most part, he has a kind heart.  He's offered to let me have anything I want from his house after he gets raptured next month.  He's also getting up in years and lost his wife a few years back, which may explain how over the top he's gotten lately, so I try to make sure he's ok.
