  •  my dad was on that list for years (6+ / 0-)

former congressman john hall was finally able to help him and get him off the no fly list.

what a fiasco. supposedly they couldn't tell the difference between my father, a retired high school teacher who had lived in the same house for 40 years in upstate ny, and an IRA member.

once they agreed w/ my dad that he was not and had never been in the IRA, and was born and raised in the good old USA, they still failed to remove him from the list. they left him on it for years. my dad used to go to the airport several hours early w/ a pile of documentation every time he flew.

john hall's office helped my dad get off the list.

It's a list of names.  So if someone else shares a name with you....

Kinda shows how crappy all the government ID stuff is, if they can't tie your drivers license or passport to a person, and are forced to rely on the non-unique string of characters printed as your name on it.
