    A tide is a force which is generally too great to stop, like a tsunami.

    So, are you referring to the tide of beltway opinion?

    The truth is not determined by popular notions (argumentum ad populum, or appeal to authority).

    On the other hand, there is an international tide which isn't exactly supporting the US.

      to tell my employees quite frequently.

      I'm just talking about the tide of opinion on DKos, which I think is wrong in this case, although usually right on most issues--or I wouldn't have stayed here regularly for 10 years.
