    Partly because courage and perseverance are as rare as decency, good sense, vision.  I'll always remember how hard some of the truly misguided American Maoists -- yeah, Maoists -- worked for stuff I believed in decades ago.  They put their bodies out there like the rest of us, they made flyers and signs, they organized and rabble-roused and were with us for an important percentage of the journey.  And it sucked to be on the same team as them because they took over whole meetings with batshit crazy ideas and impossible personalities.  Ah, the coalition of the willing.

    When the hagiographies are written, these folks are either sanitized or disappeared. Susan B. Anthony gets a coin.  The "black block" kids get nothing.

      the conversations between Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony, both of which we encase in bronze statutes nowadays, but holy hell did some of what passed between them put even this diary to shame.  Coalitions can be ugly.  You just keep pushing and hope for the best.
