      Besides, the Russian navy is at least a generation behind the US Navy.  If one Russian missile is fired toward a US ship, the whole Russian task force would be taken down before they knew what hit them.

      Maybe, if we kill Assad's side, and the Russians kill the rebels, then eventually, they'll all run out of "assets", and peace will breakout?

      I do, and if they are to be believed, Putin would have wide support at home in a game of tit-for-tat. Don't underestimate Putin's self-confidence or his popularity with his people. He is wily, he is clever, he is ruthless, and his people like that about him. That's what I hear from my Russian friends, anyway. Let's ask some of the Russians who frequent this site what they are hearing from the folks back home and reading in Russian social media.
