  •  Any information on who is funding various groups? (4+ / 0-)

The Saudis under Bandar Bush and the Qataris have both supplied funds and arms to their respective jihadist groups. I understand the Qataris are supporting Muslim Brotherhood groups and Bandar is supporting the more radical groups because they are more effective (as was shown in Afghanistan). An expose of this funding is necessary. Unfortunately these countries are very closed to scrutiny.

It is very interesting and telling that Obama does not speak to the fact that the Qataris and Saudis are financing the most virulent groups within the country. He MUST know exactly what is going here. Bandar Bush has had very close ties with the US administration for decades. Are there any reports of Obama meeting with him?

There are things going on in Syria that Obama is not telling the people.

      - Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and rich citizens of these countries, one of the major reasons for this is the very old tribal ties between the Arab tribes in these countries and the Arab tribes in eastern Syria.

Much of the non-governmental funding is ideological - many of those providing this funding support radical groups.

      - exile and expatriate Syrians also provide funding, usually to individual groups, often because these groups are from their own hometowns, sometimes those providing the funding have no idea of what the ideological stances of the groups they fund have or have been misled by fundraisers.

Many wealthy exiled Syrians provide funds out of revenge and/or wishful thinking that they will be the ones who take over if the current government is ousted.

      - many individuals and groups around the world also provide funding and much of this goes to the most radical rebel groups.

Lamb chop, we can quibble what to call it, but I think we can both agree it's creepy.
