a major party imploding in a two-party system.

As much as I despise the GOP, the country needs an alternative political party.

    •  Have no fear. (7+ / 0-)

The Dems will split. The right-leaning Dems will merge with the Decline to Staters who have left the GOP. Those groups will reform into a reasonable right. The remnant GOP will live out their days as the kook party until they rejoin the new GOP and we start all over again.

      •  NO way (0+ / 0-)

        Will the Dems split.

        •  Seriously. There is no way. Dems do not split. (4+ / 0-)

I am not sure why anyone thinks the Dems will split.  I think it's much more likely that the Republicans split.

One part of the Republican party splits off to be "The Party Of Jesus", wildly spouting off for multiple Constitutional Amendments against gays, abortion, and atheism while simultaneously screaming at the top of their lungs that everyone who doesn't vote for their party will "burn in Hell" and "is a servant of Satan".    This branch will fare well in Alabama, Texas, Mississippi, Georgia and South Carolina.

The second part of the Republican party splits off into "Corporations Uber Alles", who want to gut regulations and slam corporate taxes down to 0%.   The branch will fare poorly with the general public but will capture almost all of the Republican wealthy donor base.

The third part of the Republican party splits off into strict Libertarianism and isolationism.   This branch will appear to non-college educated white males and voters in Wyoming, Montana, Utah and Idaho.

Because progressives like me and many others here simply can't coexist with the Third Way Wall Street DINOs and the neoconoid national security hawks who comprise a hefty portion of the party.  I, for one, am totally fed up with the party, which would be rated center-right in most of the rest of the world.

If there was a realistic alternative to the left of the Dems, I'd jump ship in a New York minute.  For the time being, I'll work to improve the Dems but I don't see the party lasting as is, particularly if the Repugs do disintegrate

threat from splitting or even agitating.

Yeah, I told my IL Senators and Rep Quigley NO on Syria. That does not mean I will not vote for them.

Tell your family, friends, neighbours and enemies:

        VOTE DEMOCRATIC.

The alternatives are like injecting yourself with poison, and that includes the GOP, Libertarians, Greens and any other perceived alternatives.

        VOTE DEMOCRATIC.

        •  Voting Dem.... (0+ / 0-)

....is like injecting yourself with arsenic.  Voting for the alternatives is like injecting cyanide.  One takes a little longer than the other but both will kill you.

My feeling is that the Dems are getting to the point where they go to the "lesser of 2 evils" well once too often.

          •  Lovely. Now what is the alternative? (0+ / 0-)

Or are you saying there is no alternative and we all surrender ourselves to the Borg or Matrix?

            Ugh. --UB.

These are the republicans that will reform the GOP - imo.

The younger generation that should be Dems but aren't for reasons I don't understand but nevertheless are next phase of republicans to push out the reactionary theocratic bigots that now control much of the party.

So yes let the old guard and the racists implode into a tiny little hardened ball of insignifcance to make room for another generation - is my take anyway

    •  No we don't (8+ / 0-)

let us be like California. Or better yet, like Sweden, where everyone is liberal (other than the white nationalists), but to varying degrees.
