Although we agree I reject the language of calling another countries government a "regime" because we deem it so. It is the Syrian government as long as Assad is in charge just like it would or will be when he is gone.

Today they shout "regime" tomorrow they call it a government. It matters not which is worse. It is nothing more than an attempt to discredit with the use of language.

OMG, what they're doing to language in this country. I have a permanent knot in my forehead, from banging it on the keyboard so much lately...

This all started with "what the Republicans did to language".

If I am going to try and divorce myself from the political culture that I have come to loathe and despise, I'm going to have to be as careful, aware, and as purposefully deliberate, in all my attempts to communicate my thoughts.

You make a damned good point.

Why am I, rather unconsciously, just automatically calling it "the Assad regime"? Why? To autopsy that is to be embarrassed and humbled. "Because that's how 'everyone' puts it" is as bogus as putting your brain into the pickle jar and buying the 'my country right or wrong, my mother drunk or sober' tropes of the hawks. It is a good point you make.

I've overlooked a bit of my own being hoodwinked.

      Words matter.

Warping words into tools for memes and frames matters too.

I am a Loco-Foco. I am from the Elizabeth Warren wing of the Democratic Party.
