    Part of me wants to be able find the flaw in your thinking, reclaim something of the patriotism I felt as a youth, the love of John Wayne movies, American flags on my bike riding in Memorial Day parades.  

    There is very little to be proud of in the way we have projected our military might throughout the world.  A profusion of weapons does not make this world a better place to live, neither does it make it safe for those who stand behind their weapons.

    We like to cast our nation as the good guy, the peace maker, dispenser of "a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way", but it simply isn't so.
