    i have just been watching STARZ Spartacus series.

    in 500 years we will be known as the romans of the western hemisphere who brought the world to the edge of extinction.  if we survive, that is, something i increasingly doubt.

    one reason that series is so popular has  do with how we see our reflection in them.  i sense a strange fascination with the gore and obscene sex as a subconscious realization that our pursuits are not all that different.  modern porn appears in more venues than ever before.  violence of all sorts in unavoidable in our entertainments.

    from a craft point of view, the series is generally well done.

    and spartacus cannot fail to be admired.  he pulled off a miracle when he gathered thousands of slaves who had nothing at all and waged war against roman machine.
