  •  Let me put it to you this way... (0+ / 0-)

    a) As you note, chainsaws are difficult to conceal.  This is not the case with firearms.

    b) A certain amount of time is required to put most chainsaws into operation.  If I see you pulling out a chainsaw in an inappropriate situation, there is a non-negligible window in which I can either attempt to stop you or escape.  That window does not exist with firearms.

    c) In order to inflict physical damage on individuals, a criminal wielding a chainsaw must be in close physical proximity to the victim(s).  This is not the case with firearms.

The simple fact of the matter is that, of the various forms of personal weaponry available to the general public, firearms are by far the greatest force multiplier; they allow the individual attacker to inflict the most griveous attacks against the largest number of potential victims from the greatest distance with the least physical effort.

If you ask me, THAT is the proper starting point for the discussion.

The word "parent" is supposed to be a VERB, people...

I agree. I was going to say that if I had a nickel for every time a discussion about guns was turned to chainsaws, I'd have about 5 cents, but now it would be more.
