  •  Hmm. (4+ / 0-)

Only problem with your second paragraph is that it stands to reason that Assad has less control over his army than Obama does over his Cabinet.

Assad's country is in a state of civil war; Obama has all the peace and quiet needed to keep his own Cabinet on message.

    •  No Problem (0+ / 0-)

I am not saying whether or not Assad directly ordered the attack, or whether a rogue commander ordered it while Assad tacitly accepted it.

I am only saying that the ownership of responsibility is identical to that of "rogue" Kerry and "tacit" Obama.

morally too: Assad could always resign if he can't control the insubordination of his brass.  But it's entirely possible that indeed he can't control his brass.  He was always a pretty weak ruler.

        •  Uhm, so, if Obama proceeds without Congressional (0+ / 0-)

          approval, he could be impeached?

          •  Correct me if I'm wrong, but Dubya (6+ / 0-)

had plenty of Congressional support, including from Democrats, for both the Afghan and Iraq wars.

            •  Yes, of course. (0+ / 0-)

I should have added the snark tag.

This whole situation just seems so in-the-mirror, upside down and unreal.

I still ask: why bomb Syria and what is to be accomplished, in a concrete sense?  And am not seeing very thorough answers from anywhere.

And why does this NOT resemble the rush into Iraq?  Not in every single aspect, but certainly in the apparent misleading, duplicitousness, and lack of clear goal or direction.
