    This is actually a benefit of working in a RTW state -- because they don't have to make up any cockamamie stories about the "cause" it's actually quite common for people to be let go without (legal) cause.  And, he should file immediately (and appeal vigorously if the former boss tries to claim any cause), because it will be a ding (and a cost) against the company and count against the former boss, in increased unemployment insurance premiums.

    Also, if he's been seeing a shrink and documenting the emotional abuse, he might try filing a workmans comp claim.  On the job stress, if extreme, is not out of the question -- and the company will be forced to fight it...and might not win.  This will raise their workmans comp insurance premiums.
