    The NYPD... they are every where in the five boroughs, with the exception of Port Authority- (the other agency) owned areas-

    That means, the bridges and tunnels from NYC to New Jersey.  The airports- LaGuardia and JFK; parts of the World Trade Center site, the PATH trains from New Jersey, and the two Manhattan bus terminals (the PA in midtown, and one up by the GWB.)

    We generally don't have state police in NYC except in rare cases- after 9/11, Hurricane Sandy... things like that.

    There are some other uniformed people that can be mistaken for police.  (Sanitation inspectors, if not for their green uniforms.)

    The NYPD used to be split into three agencies- NYPD, Housing Police, and MTA Police.  They were merged some years ago.
