      evolving police state.

Well, "devolving" is probably a better choice of words.

Sorry, but in my world there's more to freedom and liberty than simply not having one's mouth punched in or not being gratuitously shot by police. I guess my bar for "free society" is to high for the hacks in today's American "leadership" to reach. Sigh.

was gratuitously shot in this story. The diarist had his feelings hurt because the policeman spoke to him harshly - which is probably exaggeration anyway.

          sailing right over your head.

Please read more carefully before responding.

You've made it clear that you think that not being punched in the mouth or gratuitously shot is sufficient to define a free society. Lots of arbitrary restrictions on freedom of movement and conduct are evidently fine with you.

I believe that not being subjected to ridiculous restrictions on, say, the taking of pictures in public places, and not being accosted and threatened by police for doing so are also necessary to define a free society. I guess I have an impossibly high bar for a "free society", at least in your mind. But, you see, I never did drink the "9-11 changed everything" Kool-Aid, and I never did settle for elimination of civil liberties in the name of the "War on Terra".

Obviously you disagree. That's fine, but at least understand what it is you disagree with before hitting "Post".
