First, there are not degrees in brain surgery. All brain surgeons are MDs with specialized training. That starts as a residency in general surgery. If you don't demonstrate exceptional skill as a general surgeon you can't advance to a second residency is neurosurgery. If you don't perform well in your residency you aren't allowed to complete your specialty and the prospective neurosurgeon takes another path.

The notion that someone with an MD, who has completed even a residency in general surgery, should work on an assembly line is total and complete nonsense.

    •  Don't you ever get tired of being patronizing? (10+ / 0-)

Surgeons who lose their licenses are just overeducated surplus workers. Gross negligence malpractice claims? Sexual abuse of patients? Repeated drug problems?

Hop state lines, lose another license, can't get insurance or admitting privileges anywhere. What takes years to achieve can be lost pretty darn quickly.

At that point, that training doesn't help at all. But folks still need to be able to work.

      Ban nock is right.

So if you get hit by a bus tonight, would you be satisfied with how you spent today, your last day on earth? Live like tomorrow is never guaranteed, because it's not. -- Me.

you might have gotten it, or maybe not.

But speaking to the issue you raised, and I didn't intend. I've certainly seen my share of MDs that make me wish for the days when they paid people to pump gas, no too much responsibility, maybe lavatory attendant, someone needs to hand out the towels.
