Gotta give credit for Miliband. He explicitly wanted to repudiate the Blair past and have a clear and concise pathway to action through chemical weapons proof and the UN. Cameron was pissed off he wouldn't get his war moment. Refused Miliband's amendment. They went through the division lobby thinking Cameron would still win...

    And then the Tories rebelled.

So in a way it was inadvertent. But democracy is inadvertent. Miliband got the most horrible roasting of his life from Blairites and Tories telling him he'd played games with dead childrens' lives, and had emasculated the UK in way worse than Suez.

But then Obama came along with his congressional vote, and it all changed.

It all feels to me more like cock-up than conspiracy, and that varying tides in international politics are undoing some of the hubris and harm of 'exemplary power' as displayed in Iraq, with catastrophic consequences

Those Iraq hawks (and I was briefly hawking in spring 2003 because of the unwitting misinformation relayed to me about Iraq WMD) are still on the televisions, decrying Obama and Miliband for weakness, spinelessness, and isolationism

Let them rant. There are other ways...
