etc etc etc. The inability to reasonably anticipate the future is endemic among our current quite daffy elites in business, politics, and military.

They have an ethic of "set your goal and move forward, whatever problems arise, they can be overcome, so buffalo through until you achieve your dream."

Our various leaderships are mostly delusional.

            mostly delusional.

It it every other day? Every 3? Only days that start with 'S'? Or maybe 'T'?

Sorry I don't buy oil as a full explanation especially when they have been so incompetent in their supposed goals in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as so embarrassingly missed the fact that oil is on it's way out.

            •  So Obama is the sum of all elites for you? (2+ / 0-)

Interesting, even novel, grasp of politics you present.

Obama in "our various leaderships"  though you trying to twist my words is neither novel nor interesting.

Then again if I said what you said I'd be trying to deflect and obfuscate too.

                •  So elites don't make mistakes in the US. (0+ / 0-)

Interesting you changed to "oh, you're implying bad-bad abut Obama' in response to the fact I mentioned that we have entire elites which are clearly delusional.

And they can plan for things like pipelines and shit which not only don't happen, but can't happen.

It's very difficult to think intelligently -- hell, intelligently? with a lick of sense -- about politics when one sees a single personality as the center of all that matters.

          •  Yea, they could only sit on Solar & Wind for so (0+ / 0-)

            long.

The oil cartels have effectively mothballed, defeated, and/or actively stymied anything that would wean us off of oil for my entire lifetime.

BP and Shell bought successful solar start up  companies, took the subsidies, ran them as a PR gig and then sold them off. They ought to be sued, IMO.

It was a little better in wind, I think largely because of the offshore nature and the technical knowhow from platform development and plastics.

Energy companies are in the Oil Market protection business. It's been a hundred + years in the making, and I think it has been VERY long term focused. It has been the strategic prize of the planet since the 1940s (I really wish I could remember that quote by G. Kennan - anyone?). It's development has been highly planned - orchestrated and navigated almost decade by decade in a very realpolitik manner - but always focused on the future - there was a LOT of oil there.

Governments have been fallen. A long term oligarchy has been installed - propped up and taken out.

It's funny though, people tend to not like that kind of shit. Especially because not only about mastering the present but mastering the future as well.

Democracy - 1 person 1 vote. Free Markets - More dollars more power.

    •  I'd say that BigOil Inc. has done a damn fine job (5+ / 0-)

of keeping alternative energy systems at bay.  Non-hydro renewables still provide only 7% of our nation's electricity and next to nothing in transportation... and we've known what needed to be done since 1973.

      •  well that ignores a lot (0+ / 0-)

including the fact that transportation is very dependent on factors like energy density and reliability. More over it ignores the outright explosion in nonoil related energy over the last 4 years.

If I were an oil exec I'd be kicking myself for not being on that wave and being forced to play catch up.
