I know there are plenty on here who remember Hinckley and Iran-Contra and the Religious Right when they were actually a thing.  But if you're 25 you were born in 1988 and were 4 when Clinton took office.  I assume that person probably didn't experience the events I mentioned.

But you totally have me.  I know about Pat Nixon's "Republican" cloth coat and Mitt Romney's dad getting "brainwashed" about Vietnam only from my parents.

in age.  I find the younger ones reference modern things I have never heard of and from a perspective that gives me pause.  Then someone will reference something from my parents generation and from their perspective of life during the depression.

That is what this place so great, well at least sometimes.

in media res and eventually you have to figure out what happened before you to figure out what's happening now.  I appreciate the participants in this site have a variety of historical viewpoints.  I'm glad I'm old enough to remember a bit---if only a bit---of the world pre-Reagan and certainly pre-1994, when civil society put a limit on how crazy conservatives could be in public.  It's enlightening to hear from people who remember the 1960s or who weren't around until the 1990s.
