    a black guy, telling me decades ago that he thought this country would always be hopelessly racist. I gave him lots of credence at the time, and sometimes, as we take seemingly so many steps backward with a Trayvon Martin case, we seemingly take steps forward with the election of a man at the head of a multi-racial family.

    I still would love national workshops of reconciliation on racism in this nation, but as more and more generations of young people see nothing wrong in "race-mixing" (to use the hateful term of white supremacists), this will increasingly be a real way out of this forever dilemma.
