    Are the examples you're thinking of in which Obama shocked everyone with a pick, by passing over everyone who was in the conversation?

      policies and legislative initiatives as well.  As for nominations, he's got other problems, like failing to defend them if the Repubs don't like them.

          If past nominations are a guide, some negative noises about Summers from the Repubs would put an end to his candidacy.  Obama wouldn't defend him to the Repubs.
