Much of IL is both red and rural and despises "gun control".  CO is similar in this regard, as are many red states.  If the D's had sufficient numbers instead of just concentration they wouldn't have republican judges.

for a very long time. as they did in new york, for that matter.

illinois is a strange state, but turnout again is the key. get democrats to the polls, and it's not even close. dems hold a 15 point registration advantage.

Having issues that they support is part of it.  My read is this fundamental was missing in CO.  Not easy for everyone to accept.

if we'd have gotten people to the polls, we'd have won at least one of these races. but the same turnout problem killed us nationally in 2010, and guns were not an issue.

Strange voters weren't inspired by promising to ban objects from them.

Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.

            •  MOTIVATION TO VOTE IS KEY (5+ / 0-)

              National Democrats:
"Yo!.  Go vote against the recall, we need to keep this gun ban thing going."

              Colorado Democrats:
"Nah, I got things to do, an' I'm not feeling the love, ya know?"

This was never sold as CRUCIAL to your existence as a

              1) Core Democratic groups (Latinos, African Americans, youth voters, single women)
So now we have to scramble and find someone to blame.
              Republican Judges.
The NRA, and Koch Brothers - massive hidden monies that Kos didn't list.
Reiterating: Money wasn't a factor, progressive groups outspent conservatives $2.3 million to $500K. It wasn't even close.
              Fucking scheming rat-bastard Republicans.
              Skinheads, the NRA, and KKK.
              Oh fuck yeah.  That's it!
This was a White Supremacist effort to repress the black and latino vote.

Lawrence Lewis, call Eric Holder on the bat phone, and get the DOJ on this NOW.

Where's Janet Rino when you need her?  Did Eric learn nothing from his mentor?
She knew when to put boots on ground, kick some white Republican-sympathizer ass, and put FEAR into the backsliders.
That's what the voters in Colorado need, a good army of Feds, kickin' ass and taking names.  Oh yeah.
Rest easy folks, Lawrence Lewis is on the job.

Our judges are chosen on the basis of merit and by the way, the vast majority have been appointed by Democratic Governors from a list given to the Governor by a citizen commission that has only a minority of lawyers and can't have more than a one member edge to either party.  The reality is that the vast majority of recommendations to the Governor are unanimous.  I know, I served on one of these commissions.

The problem here was an archaic (1890's) provision of our Constitution which nobody noticed until we had our first ever legislative recalls.  Surely you're not saying that the wonderful new elections law passed by our legislators this year which makes elections all ballot, allows for early voting and has statewide registration could override a provision in our Constitution, as old and archaic and unknown as it was???
