But I'm not getting why it's okay to publicly and gleefully humiliate somebody over their consensual sexual history? I thought our value system was supposed to be that what consenting adults do is okay, should not rob anybody of their human dignity, and really isn't anybody's damn business. Let's not forget it wasn't that long ago that any politician daring to come out as gay would be the universal target of the nastiest jokes everybody could come up with. (Fact, I still see Barney Frank getting that treatment sometimes in comments sections. Makes me sick.)
And all the people saying "ohhh, we're not humiliating him because he does freaky sex, we're humiliating him because he's a hypocrite!" Please. a) That's transparently bullcrap. You're having wayyy too much fun with the diapers thing. b) Even on a technical level, you don't get to use the hypocrisy out when the legislative issue at hand has absolutely nothing at all to do with sex or family values.
FTR, I'm also not sure why it's okay for the Senate Dems to blackmail somebody with sex stuff. Again, if this were, say, an abortion law and he was breaking out the Jesus-hates-sluts stuff, then yeah, fair game. But that's not what we have here. Here it's just doing it because they can, and I think this kind of schoolyard taunting is beneath Reid, frankly. Or should be.
And finally, I'm not sure why it's okay for people on this site to treat uncorroborated reports as though they were established fact. Frankly, I don't think what kind of sex Vitter has is relevant to anything pretty much ever, but it's especially irrelevant when we don't even know for sure if it's true.
