  •  In other words.......... (9+ / 0-)

forced by circumstances, Obama actually does what citizens were originally hoping for.

    Lovely stuff.

Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man; we shall this day light such a candle by God's grace in England as shall never be put out.

    •  More complicated than that (4+ / 0-)

I dont think he was playing 11D chess.

But I also think the threat of military action did play a role in getting Russia and Assad to agree to a deal.

Again, dont think Obama planned it out that way, but I dont know if we have the deal without the threat of military action.

to the war (on an international scale) was the right medicine whether he was playing 11th-dimensional chess or not. It was that which slowed down the rush to war long enough that Assad and Putin could get scared and cave before we rushed in there with missiles, planes, or drones. God forbid if we had launched missiles before they decided to cave (that's the problem with playing "chicken," IMO). Once shots are fired, you're in a whole different world.

The party of Kennedy is also the party of Eastland. The party of Javits is also the party of Goldwater. Where is our party? Where is the political party that will make it unnecessary to march on Washington?

    •  Um, no. (0+ / 0-)

The citizens didn't, and still don't, give a damn about CW.  Obama did, defying the citizens, and he achieved his goal.  The citizens preferred "hoped for" policy was to embrace isolationism and do nothing.
