I need the outside pressure of being close to deadline, nearly late to make me move.  It's an energy/motivation issue, and one that my brain chemistry plagues me with continually.
I think that's me and writing.

    •  Ah, deadlines (4+ / 0-)

It's the same with me. If a deadline is too far off I often can't concentrate. I seem to have a good estimate of how long something will take and am able to avoid waiting too long.

I tried to counteract this my last semester in college by starting a final paper a week before it was due. I wrote and rewrote the first page, but it never seemed right. I final got off the first page some time after midnight and stayed up until 4:00 AM writing. The comment from the teacher was, "The first page was a little weak, but once you got going...." So much for positive reinforcement. I remember another time sitting down with a stack of books at 6:00 PM and saying to myself, "What am I going to write about?"

On the other hand, if I'm not dealing with other people I usually show up early when I'm going somewhere.
