  •  Do those pop-up petitions do any good (6+ / 0-)

that has ever been measured, or are they just our equivalent of Glory and Amen?

Really wondering about this, not just being my usual snarky self.

that people are really interested in, yeah. It helps us get new names for our email actions, and we have very effective email actions. Our list blows most groups away for engagement and activism.

And in some cases, that makes a concrete difference. On the filibuster fight, the hundreds of thousands of people we had an our petition helped Reid make his case in threatening to go nuclear.

      •  Learning to be effective (10+ / 0-)

I used to write for a living in the computer division of the local state university.

Way back when we were trying to get John Kerry elected, there was a group that specifically focused on writing effective letters and how to get them to the widest audience of people who needed to hear what we had to say.

I have learned so much about netroots activism here and it has made me a better Democrat and progressive. I am disabled and can't go door to door and participate in events that help our cause. But, I can do a whole lot of good behind my key board. My favorite experience was phone banking for Sherrod Brown using the Move On system. I was a rookie but I learned how to do a cold call and, I believe, make a difference.

        Thanks to those who teach!

        Peace.
