  •  I would take my clothes off for someone (18+ / 0-)

who was naked. I would give my food to someone who was hungry.

I will not be taken advantage of. I feel like a total fool.

ON the other hand, I did what I had to do: to make sure someone had a roof over their head. Because I'm a human being.

    •  Well done you for attempting good commonmass.... (11+ / 0-)

and the result doesn't diminish your efforts.

Its also a good reminder that we are a very diverse group here and not all of us share the same ethics.

Try not to get to cynical and I'll try not to say "What in the world were you thinking!!!!!!"  :)

Wonders are many, but none so wonderful as man.

    •  YOU are NOT a fool! (11+ / 0-)

      Not now, not ever.

I need to say the next in context, the context being I'm a special needs parent and there's a great article/blog post going around the Internets this past summer about how we special needs parents need each other so much, and how crucial it is to connect with other special needs parents - you may have family, and friends,  who love and support you and your kid, but only other special needs parents really have walked the same road... the way the author put it, I'll paraphrase, is  "you find your Tribe",  - the people you no longer have to explain/educate when you just need to talk and vent because they get it. They just get it. Like anyone who isn't living it, no matter how empathetic and genuine they are, just can't.

      Having provided that context:

Therefore, maybe the reality is you have been here so long, and it's such a home to you, such a feeling of having found your tribe, that you relaxed your guard a little too soon - you erred on the side of openness and good will. THAT IS NEVER DUMB. You sent out good in the universe, and even if that person did not return that positive energy to you directly, it will come back to you. And their negative energy will eventually come back to them, even though you won't be there, per se,  to see it.

This community has a lot of very smart people, in ALL the ways that humans can be intelligent: artistically, intellectually, spiritually, emotionally... we have more than our fair share of highly evolved beings around here.  You're one of them, Commonmass, never, never doubt it. Once Upon a Time, YOU opened yourself up where others wouldn't have dared. That was Epic Hero level shit, dude. The universe rewarded your open heart and daring by you a Great Love, even if only too briefly.  You are wise, like the stars are infinite.  far beyond a piddling little 2 month mistake. In 10 years, you won't even remember this until you go re-read your old diaries here on Daily Kos, other than to pity the person who was so low as to try to take advantage of you. She's the stupid one. One true friend in life is worth far more than diamonds, and she just totally blew her chances of having one - for what? Temporary selfishness and greed.
