Given the long and twisted history of US/Iranian relations stretching back to the early 20th century, I hope this signals a legitimate thaw and at least a small shift toward reason in Iran AND in the US. I don't think anyone aside from the most strident partisans in either nation has benefited from the sort of pissing-match posturing that has defined the last several decades. And I don't see how complete disengagement has done any real good toward helping the US, the Iranian people, or the international community. Iran remains a harsh theocracy with unpredictable leadership, and the US remains stuck between the relatively progressive current administration and the quasi-theocratic, war-mongering plutocrats clamoring at the gates. We can't afford a repeat of Bush-style leadership, or worse. That is what we must fight against in 2014, 2016, and beyond.
